Different gas tank woe question

I arrived at work this morning to the distinct smell of gasoline. I looked under the jeep and saw liquid drippng from I think the top of the gas tank. After freaking, I got online and saw that in the original 94 wranglers, there was a recall on gas tank connections.

Now the stupid question:

How do I find out if the orig owner ever had it corrected?

I don't want to take it in to a dealerand have them slaughter me with costs. If the recall was fixed, I can get a friend to help me install anew one.

But with my busiest time of year happening now, I need to get it done quick and if the dealer is still liable to fix it, I would like to avoid any extra jobs right now.

Any one know how I can check?

Cheers,
Mick

If you post the last 9 digits of the vin, I will run a report for you.

Randy,

Thanks, I feel so bad after the "slaughter with costs" comment. The last 9 from the vin are

Thanks,

Re: Different gas tank woe question

That recall was done on 2-6-95. You do have open recall, B03 that needs to be done. It will replace the e-brake assembly. Hope this helps. (I work at a JEEP dealer also, I am a technician) Also check the fuel lines to the tank they may be dryrotted.

Re: Different gas tank woe question

Guys,

I'll take a look tonight at the lines, now that I have a driveway. I'd better warn my wife I need a ride in tomorrow no matter what.

Thanks for the info Sinbad, did you check my vin specifically, or were you giving me the date of the general recall?

Mick

The last 9 digits include the serial number. It is unique to each vehicle.

Re: Different gas tank woe question

It was your vin. That was the date the recall was done on your jeep.

Re: Different gas tank woe question

Sinbad,

Thanks! I'll take the vehicle in for the ebrake after my Fall rush.

My friend just called and said he could see the gas stains all over the tank. Anyone have a general idea of the cost of a fuel sending unit?

Re: Different gas tank woe question

Okay, I've just been told my buddy can't do it and he's dropping it off at a mechanic we know. In the meantime, I've been looking at a number of parts sites. I can only find sending units up to 1993, but cannot for the life of me find a cost or identify anyone selling a fuel sending unit for a 94 I4 wrangler. Where is the best place to look?
