Broke down--Left in woods--Molested

Alright, I wired this just like it shows.

Coil kept getting hot and cutting out when I wasn't moving for a while (stop lights ect.).

So, I put the resistor wire in. Problem was solved.

Then, my buddy calls me up........."I got my girlfriends wrangler stuck again (she is out of town, second night in a row he stuck it, she gonna kill that boy!) the vacuum line to the front axle is broke and I only have 2wd" he says...... OK, I go to get him. Winch him out of a creek, and we're off. He gets stuck again, and while I'm watching him try to get out, old Smokey takes a crap right there. Coil is shot, wrangler is stuck, it's 1:30 am. We jerry rig three sets of jumper cables and two straps so I can charge the battery while I winch him out. Towing me out was not going to happen, too difficult w/ only 2wd. So, we left it there from 3:00 am until 9:30 am. I returned w/ a coil to find that my jeep had already been molested. They must have heard us coming and left before they got anything good.

Why am I frying my coil?????????????

Re: Broke down--Left in woods--Molested

Aaron, I was having problems when I did the conversion.I took out the TFI, and went with a regular oil filled coil.
When I had the TFI coil installed the ignition box kept failing.
You better get your s#it together for next weekend.!!!!!

BTW.... fix your problem here

Re: Broke down--Left in woods--Molested

Sorry to hear about your problems. I do not know enough to tell you why it doesn't work, but can tell you what I have and works for me. I picked up an MSD 8227 Ford TFI coil from Jegs and just wired it in place of the original coil on my 84 CJ7. I even left provisions to put the old coil back in place. I kept the original ignition but did use the Ford base and top. Unless my white and red wires were spliced by the previous owner, mine are still not spliced -- like wise with the use of a resistor wire. I have had this configuration for about 6 months (1000 miles).
