D30 Loose it or leave it?

Finnaly got the 8.8/SYE/CV ds in the back of LoModYJ, got the cage going in this weekend...what's the next most likely thing to go wrong?

Looks like the next weak link on the Jeep is me or the D30. I'm not leaving so it seems as though the front axle should get the next upgrade...I've kinda locked myself into the 5 on 4.5 wheels with the 8.8. So what should I do...find a D44 and get redrilled outers? Polish up the 30 and just keep spares around? I've heard of using TJ shafts and locking hubs will make it stronger...

What would you do?

and no mobdawg I'm not going D60's

Re: D30 Loose it or leave it?

go with 60's

er..oops.. it was a knee-jerk reaction....

redrill the 8.8 for a 5 on 5.5 pattern and put a real d-44 front in that thing from a late 70's ford....many of them have 4.10 gears, they are high pinion(stronger) and they are on the correct side for a yj.

you could just toss in a chevy axle with ford outers ( i have this hole set up in the shed) and use a dana 300, but you have to re0route the exhaust... we can talk about this after you break your d-30 next weekend.....

Re: D30 Loose it or leave it?

Go with 60s...I'm putting some 20" rims on my Excursion just so I have an excuse to not spend money on wheels when I find my new 1 tons for the Jeep! The ends always justify the means...in one form or another.
