going from a ba 10/5 to a T-150 & DANA 20 have ?\'s

Is there anything you might imagine I'd need for this swap? I came accross the set freshly rebuilt for $100 and jumped on it. Longer driveshafts perhaps? I have the bellhousing for it as well. Anything else?

You'll need to swap front axles too as the dana 20 front output is on the passenger side and the YJ dana 30 differential is on the driver's side.

I'm sorry if this question is moronic, but I've never done a tranny swap... Can the transfer case be rotated 180 degrees so that the output ends up on the drivers side? (i realize it would require some maniuplation of the shifters, etc...)

Nope, you can rotate some slightly (clocking them), but the Dana 20 has a butterfly bolt pattern that won't let it rotate. Unless someone out there makes an adapter. But even then you can't roll it all the way over. Maybe ask the source of your tranny if they have the model 30 front dif too. Not the stringest, but probably easy on the wallet. It would need to be a wide track though.

would that WT Model 30 drop right in? Would I still be able to keep my 35 in the rear or would I have to go to something else....

thanks

For some reason, I think the wide-track model 30 is going to be a bit narrower than a YJ model 30. You could do what I did and swap in a D300 tcase and a D44 frontend from a 70's Wagoneer. This will make you a bit wider though, and you'll end up with 6-lug bolt patter. To solve that, just shove a D44 from a Grand Wagoneer into the rear

Yeah, after doing some in-depth research, turns out a YJ 30 is 4" wider than a Wide-Track CJ axle......DOH.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the 231 has a lower low range ratio than the Dana 20 and the T150 is only a 3 speed. In my opinion, it wouldn't really be an upgrade for you, it would be a step backwards.

You could always sell the T150/Dana 20 and make a small profit over the purchase price and use the money to upgrade

Good call on the step backwards, so sell them and get an AX-15 and call it an easy day, no other mods required but if you do swap it in you'll need an external slave cylinder for the clutch because the BA uses an internal one that is one piece with the throwout bearing. Keep in mind, as mentioned before, the T-150 has a 2.99 first and the dana 20 is 2.03 but the ax-15 has a 3.83 1st plus a 5th gear,to be called overdrive, and the NP-231 a 2.72 low range. Keep it simple!!
