Carter auto choke problem

I just put a rebuilt carter bbd w/ auto elec. choke from Advance on my 81 scrambler 258. I know everyone says the suck but I've taken the old one apart so many times I can disassemble and assemble like an M16.
They guy that had it before me ripped out all the emissions and the wiring is way different than the diagrams.

Problem: the choke plate does not open enough when the engine warms up so the engine bogs when I hit the gas. It idles fine and when I fix the choke plate wide open (hot engine) I can hit the gas and she goes. I have 9v wire ( I think it should be 7v though) running to the choke from the coil-there was an extra wire there(probably a mistake to do that).

How can I get the choke plate to open when fully hot?
