Installing new fiberglass tub????

I'm concerned about squaring my tub on the frame before I drill a bunch of holes. The only place I can see to begin would be the rear frame crossmember. It could become the reference point for the rest of the alignment. Am I close?? The tape they send with the tub kit leaves a lot to imagination. If someone has done this recently, please send me a few photos so I can get oriented to tackle mine. Sure would like to be finished by winter with this project.

Thanks

Re: Installing new fiberglass tub????

I did this a year ago with crappy results. My estimates put my tub 1 inch too far back and tilted my grill. The rear crossmember sounds like a good place to start. You could also leave the grill attached and put the hood on the body and rest it on the grill.
I ended up sitting the body on the frame and measuring from the frame out to get it in line and then the grill/hood idea to get the front/rear correct. Then crawled underneath the drilled the holes. Not the most engineering feat but it got the job done.
I got the tape and the install kit also and I'm glad I did since my tub was used. The guy just seemed to not be able to get the 5 tub on his 7. Go figure?
Good luck

Re: Installing new fiberglass tub????

One thing to check before you beat yourself up making the tub square on the frame. Make sure the frame is square! Do this by measuring diagonaly from corner to corner (LF to RR and RF to LR). My 'glass tub is actualy a bit out of square as well (didn't notice until installing the hardtop grrrrrr).

Leve's post is the way I should have done it!

Apparently you are right, Leve. I missed the reply to my last post. Thanks for the info. I'll send a photo when I get them togather.
