Stuck in 4 wheel drive

Well i finally put my CJ in 4 wheel high (for the first time) since purchasing it. I have put it in low on many occasions without problems.

When i went to take it out of 4 wheel high it wouldnt budge...finally i unlocked the hubs, drove a few feet forward and tried again...it came right out without problems..I then put it in low and climbed some rocks, when i reached the top and bottom again i couldnt take it out of 4 wheel low....so i did the same procedure as above, unlocked hubs, move forward a few feet and it works fine.

I thought putting the tranny in nuetual was all i had to do to shift in/out of 4 wheel?

Anyone have this problem?, is it the transfer case binding?

Re: Stuck in 4 wheel drive

Sometimes the tension has to be relieved on the gears before they'll move, and rolling them a little in one direction or the other will let them shift out. Shifting while the Jeep is rolling or blipping the clutch out will let you shift from 4wd.

If you have a Dana 300 T case this is typical. Mine has always done it. You just need to move forward a bit and then maybe back up a bit.
