Im going to be moving my gas tank from out underneath the jeep to in the back of the jeep where usually the back seat is because i made my own gas tank out of aluminum (and made a fire wall around it so that if it blows up the gas wont fly everywhere) and want to move it so its out of the way of bashing off rocks and those kinda objects....... So what I want to know is if anyone else has moved there gas tank to the inside of the jeep?????

It would drive Ralph Nader crazy(er) but it's not unique. Old Jeeps used to have a plain steel takn under the driver's seat. CJ5s kept the stamped place behind the driver door cutout where the filler used to be even after the tank was moved to the rear.

One of my old Ford pickups had the tank inside the cab right behind the bench seat. Never was too crazy about that. Where you are moving your tank makes good sense and keeps the weight in the rear. Hopefully you won't have any rocks bashing it there [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

My dad had an old willy that had a keg in the back for a fuel tank.

kegs are commonly used for fuel cells in race buggies.

Deadly choice,,,,but if you must,,,,check to make sure that if you roll the Jeep and it stays upsidedown that there is no way for the gas to leak/drain. I would hate to see you get covered in gas around a hot engine while you buddies try to unbuckle your seatbelts,,,or in fact an officer at the scene of a accident. Double clamp all flex lines, vent the low spot of the tub. Gas fumes from filling the tank could sit in a low spot in the tub. On a calm air day, you are making a perfect bomb. The explosive power from the vapor of a few spoonfuls of gas equal one stick of TNT...Go on line to the Goast Guard and look at some boats that had a few drops of gas collect in a low spot....

Just curious, where would you all recommend putting a gas tank in an old CJ-3B? It is currently under the seat in its original location. Just not a huge fan of sitting directly over a potential bomb.
