Need help with my speedometer cable

I've finally got the axles under my scrambler and I've just started putting in my drive train. I'm replacing the iron duke/sr-4/dana300 with a 350/sm465/np205. The problem I'm having is I can't figure out how to hook up the speedometer cable. The one on the jeep is too big. Will the one from the doner truck work with my speedometer gauge? Do I need to get a custom one made? This swap seems to have been done alot so anyone with experience your wisdom would be helpful.

Re: Need help with my speedometer cable

MAYBE ?????? I don't know enough about your rig to be positive.
Try it and see. The gearing for the speed is usually in the transmission or on the TC out shaft ..... so maybe it will work ... if it has the same type/size connection at the dash end as your Jeep cable. How accurate will it be? Depends on your tires, diff gears.
I put a scout cable on my rig .... top speed is still just 55 MPH down hill!
Custom cables are expensive! Good luck

Re: Need help with my speedometer cable

I went through a similar delima a while ago. What I did was get a drill motor and put the cable in the drill and watch the speedometer make a note of the reading , now do the same for the donor cable and speedo if you have it. If they are the same and IF the speedometer ends are the same then you use the donor cable.
