O/T Interesting Places you\'ve been

1. CJJ92YJ had a good idea...
2. But the post started badly, and went downhill.
3. So I thought I'd restart it...
4. As usual add yours.

Re: O/T Interesting Places you\'ve been

I've never wheeled there...but I did spend the best 16 continuous(sp?) days of my life there.

Philmont Scout Ranch

Located in North East New Mexico...this place was just awesome. The picture attached is the base camp.

Re: O/T Interesting Places you\'ve been

OK, I guess I'd better join in.

My favorite place to go wheelin' is called Mount Sherman. It's in southeastern Idaho where I grew up. You can't drive to the peak, but the hike up the last part is beautiful. On a clear day you can see the Grend Teton mountains, some 250 miles away. BEEEEEEEUTIFUL!!!!

Re: O/T Interesting Places you\'ve been

Wow, I don't even know where to begin. I've been so many interesting places (All in the good ole USA) that I could fill a whole thread myself.
I spent my first years on a tiny island called Isle Royale on Lake Superior, No cars, no houses (other than Park Service Employees) and lots of Moose and wolves.
Then spent many years wheeling in my father's old K5 Blazer in the mountains of Colorado. Lots of interesting ghost towns, abandoned mines, etc.
Then The family moved to Juneau, Alaska which provided un unrivaled supply of interesting things to see. One of my favorites is the Mendenhall Glacier. It was about 2 miles from my house and viewable from my dining room window. It is absolutely beautiful. There are trails all around for hiking, mountain biking, etc. I'll attach a picture of me in front of it, but it doesn't really do it justice. You can actually walk right up to the face of it.
I have LOTS of pictures of Juneau and would be happy to share them if anyone wants to see. It's an absolutely amazing beautiful place (as ALL of Alaska is) and I urge all of you to take a trip up there sometime.
My wife and i are both from there and are heading back in a few weeks to visit family and friends. I am sure that we will both hate to leave.

Re: O/T Interesting Places you\'ve been

One of the greatest places I've been in my CJ is the top of the Panamint Mountains near Roger's Pass at around 7,500 ft. You can see most of the lower Death Valley for a distance of aroud 80 miles or so. And it's also an adrenaline-pumping ride up there.

Re: O/T Interesting Places you\'ve been

well i dont have pics.. so dont worry leve..

but for a few places.. one was not in the jeep.. it was on float.. Petra, Jordan.. the big stone thing in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.. it was a whole city carved into the those cliffs.. pretty cool..

the other.. well.. its hard to decide.. between the Rubicaon trail.. (since i can not wheel it on a weekly basis)..... or that stretch of highway going to denver.. that goes thru the canyon.. hundred foot walls on the left... and a white water river on the left.. really... really.. cool.... beats almost every trail i have been on...

but then again.. those shows in thailand.. are something else.. lol...
