CJ- AMC 304 Power Steering Bracket Puzzle

I just can't see through the jigsaw puzzle on how the power steering bracket for the AMC 304 mounts. I am converting to power steering and I bought the bracket off ebay so.....after going page by page through 4 Jeep manuals, not one picture!! I know it goes high on the drivers side but that is about it. Of course pictures really help, but thanks for any help.

I don't have any pictures, but if you refresh my memory with some pictures of the brackets I will try to help. I had a power steering setup on my 304...There should be two pieces.

I THINK I have that pump assembly put together but off of the engine ... as least I was told it is what it went on ...
E-mail me [email protected] if you are stuck and could use a pic of this ready to bolt on assembly.

Re: CJ- AMC 304 Power Steering Bracket Puzzle

Thanks I think that will do it. I got a Caddy pump out of the boneyard, just hope it fits the AMC bracket. If not I will use it as a core.

Re: CJ- AMC 304 Power Steering Bracket Puzzle

Well Brent that picture is confirmed as worth 1000 words. It fits and that also explains the other bracket. I bought the A/C, Delco Alternator and P/S pump off ebay as I said earlier. Had the A/C and alternator figured out but that front P/S bracket was one I had left over-heres a great big gulp of Leiny's Red to you!

Next dilema: It appears that a Caddy pump does not fit this front bracket. The mounting hole is about a 1/4" too high. There are other threaded holes that look like they may work if rotated. Does anyone know if you can disassemble this and rotate it? Doesn't look possible to me since it will muck up the hose fittings but I very well could be wrong. Just too cheap to spend $59 at O'Reily's if I don't have to. Thanks.

Re: CJ- AMC 304 Power Steering Bracket Puzzle

Ya know...I had a pump and bracket already put together sitting in my shed. It was given to my by the PO. I kept asking myself "what on earth would I do with this?" so I sold it to a Jeep only junk yard with my old T-150.

Kinda wish I had kept it to help you out.

Re: CJ- AMC 304 Power Steering Bracket Puzzle

Well thanks for thinking of me. Really I will just bite the bullet and get one. They really are not that bad priced. I will use this one as a core. This one I found was really in good shape for its age. Oh well, can't own a Jeep and not expect to spend lots of money!
