Ive been looking for a winch to mount up front on my Warn bumper and cant seem to make up my mind with all of the different choices out there. I want at least an 8k lb winch and a cheaper one would be better but i dont want to skimp on something this important.. Ive been looking at the Ramsey Patriot series. I was just looking for some opinions on ome winches. Which would you recommend?
I'm really happy with my Warn 8274, the only downside I can think of is that they sit kind of high and might block some airflow to the radiator. But I haven't had any kind of problem with it yet. You might want to try a search, I know they've been talked about. Other than that I think it might come down to personal opinion.
This is just my personal opinion--I don't like to skimp on anything that might make the difference whether or not I get home, ie. winch, tires, lockers, fuel, oil, etc. So I bought a Warn 9000 lb. winch. Just my opinion.
I have had both eletric and hydrolic. Currently I run a 10,000 pound mile marker hydrolic. So far its works great, but very slow compared to electric. The only problem I had with the electric on a previous Jeep was the electrical system wasnt up to the task. My fault, I installed it at 11 pm the night before a run. Oh well I learned a lot and still do things the night before. Good luck.
I run a Warn XD9000i and I love it.. I have never needed anymore help geting out of the mud or anything runing that thing. I even used it to pull out a Ford f350 super that was stuck in the mud with a dead front D60. The only bad thing with that pull was that i had to tie the Jeep to a big tree.. While I haven't had mine very long, their record goes without saying.
It's an oldschool winch...........heavy.........but with a GREAT track record.
BTW, I will add that I didn't have the best of luck with the "cone brake" style warns.
