I thought disks were standard in 77? Either way you should have a proportioning valve mounted on the inside of the driver's frame rail to the left of the tranny bellhousing. Do not bother trying to do anything special to the prop. valve. Just make sure you use the correct tool to press/pull the little button while you bleed the brakes. If you encounter any problems cut the damn thing off and add an adjustable prop valve for $40 from Summit or somewhere.

While your doing brakes I would try and find a cheap disc setup for the front . I hate the drums on the front of my cj 6 . I have to adjust them quite a bit to keep them from dragging me left or right across the road . I have all the stuff to swap to discs ...I just dont have the time .

When i bought my 72 CJ5 the brakes were worthless. You downshifted to stop. All i did was bleed them and take them apart cleaning them and replacing pads and now they are awsome for drum brakes. It will even skid now. You might try this route but if youve got some cash upgrade axles.

Post a pic.

It sounds like your saying your prop. valve is screwed right into the master cylinder if so it's like mine and old

mine is nothing more than a "tee" one line going to the rear and one to the front just like the ones that divide the fluid on the axles

take some good pics. and these guys will be able to identify almost all of it.
