I thought you were showing us pics I have also been wanting to build one as my stock carrier will probably fall off in short order. So if you don't mind I'll add my own question to yours...please include any diagrams, drawings or measurments you have?

Re: PICS OF HOME BUILT TIRE CARRIERS

This is a pict of in the process of building. I have it out in the Jeep now, I'll see if I can get a pict of it at lunch. Since this pict W'eve welded an old AMC20 2 hub to it to mount the wheel to. Still need to weld the hinge on and weld the hinge to the bumper.....

hope the link works, been having issues with it lately...

edit: ok, let me try this...

Re: PICS OF HOME BUILT TIRE CARRIERS

Here's mine, I had a buddy make it for me, holds a 37 quite easily and I can hang on the end of it

No fancy latch for me.

No fancy hinge either, it's just a 1" grade 8 bolt and it works fine

This setup has been holding up for a year now with no problems.

Re: PICS OF HOME BUILT TIRE CARRIERS

muddynut is right, there were a lot of posts about this
try doing a search on "tire carrier" and select either 'all posts' or 'newer than 1 year'

here are couple of threads
thread 1
thread 2

Main body and swing out is 2"x4" rectangular tubing (overkill). The swing out hinge and pin are both 1-1/8" (if I remember correctly) pins. It will swing to either side.

Oh, a pic of the rack without anything on it might help too...
