TH400 auto tranny kick down & switches

I have a '79 Jeep CJ7 with TH400 auto tranny that the P.O. installed. It doesn't have a kick down, neutral safety switch or a back up light switch. I need help with this stuff, what donor vehicle or where to find parts.
All information will be appreciated

I answered yesterday on JU... did you think I was BS'ing you?

The kickdown switch should be standard from *any* TH-400. I think it simply slides in/out (might have to drop the pan and remove the "detent solinoid" though).

I think all (most?) TH-400s had external backup light switches. Mine was part of the column shifter linkage and also kept it from starting in gear (2nd thing viciously removed during build-up ).

The neutral safety was also external

Re: TH400 auto tranny kick down & switches

The kickdown SWITCH was useualy a momentary switch on the carb linkage, the kickdown SOLENIOD just screws into the side of the tranny, most only had 1 terminal on the end and the tranny will leak like a seive if its not there. or the hole isn't pluged. n.s. switches varied by years and users. Either on shifter, or in neutral/reverse lamp switch on tranny shift shaft. It's worth the effort!!!! gas. good luck!

The kickdown switch was mounted over the gas pedal.

I've probably got one of the kickdown switches somewhere. If you can't find one let me know. I'm not home much right now.

Thanks, that will be a big help. I'm on vacation next week and plan to hit the yards. I'll let you know if I need one.

Re: TH400 auto tranny kick down & switches

Mine was "micro" brand switch(no doubt rigged...errr, "added" by the PO ) on a bracket near the accelerator. This was also viciously removed as I'm more than capable of "kicking it down" all by my lonesome

I just took a kickdown switch to the scrap metal place in the body of a 1975 cherokee that I didn't need. I guess I should have pulled it out. Oh, well.
