1986 CJ7 question

Hi all, am a long time Jeep owner, bought my 86 CJ7 new off the dealers lot back in early 1987. It was kinda plain jane, but had all the options I wanted. Came with the Model 44 rear, hard top, power steering, T-176 trans, and a 258 mill. The thing that I thought was odd was it was the only CJ that I had looked at that came from the factory with white painted steel wheels. Was this common for the 86 production and I just missed it? Any info would be appreciated.
I'm still driving her, after a tub off rebuild. Added a factory 20 gal tank, tow bar, emron paint, and 3.73 gears. And yes, I'm still running the steel wheels, she just wouldn't be the same with out'em.

Welcome to the board!

old geaser with a jeep-

Don't know about '86 for sure but earlier model CJs were available with the "Renegade" package. It was a trim package that included wheels, my '77 came with the Renegade package and 8x15 white spoke and 9x15 tires. I see Leve in your future.

Not sure about 86 but I know that this was available for other years.

Re: 1986 CJ7 question

I have an '86 as well, but it came with chrome wheels. However, I did meet a guy from Oregon who had the same configuration as you have and it had white spoked wheels from the factory. It was metalic blue with a tan hard top and he was the original owner. So I guess its not unheard of.

Welcome to the Board.
I have an 85 CJ-7 that came from the Factory with white steelies also. Orginally the Jeep was the metallic blue with a white hard top with white steel rims. Your not alone with the rims. About 4 years ago I repainted them black with a rattle can of Rust-o-Leum. I've kicked around the idea of replacing them, but their original...and they look great.

Re: 1986 CJ7 question

My parents bought a 1986 CJ 7 Renegade from the local delaer...which I am now driving...it came from the factory with white steel wheels too. Of course we immediately traded in for some aftermarket aluminum Centerlines. Hope that answers your question

Re: 1986 CJ7 question

Thanks for all the replys, guess I need to claify about the wheels, they are the old fashioned stamped type, not the spoke. I just thought that was odd, as I had looked at many CJ's before I bought this one and I remember thinking that maybe the dealer was pulling a fast one. But this Jeep was calling me by name, so she followed me home from Okla. City to Chicago. 157,000 miles later on the original engine, she looks great, runs great, but those dang steel wheels I still wonder about. As before, any info is appreciated.
You guys are great, (except for the geazer shot, I'm not that old....well maybe I am, but I'll never admit it, as long as I can count to 4, I can still shift gears!!!!)

The ole geazer shot was almost a direct quote from your bio, not a personal shot at you. If you leave us a name, we'll call you that.

Re: 1986 CJ7 question

Can't help with the wheel question but wanted to welcome you to the board anyway. Old geaser, long time CJ owner and a Okie to boot, I'm liking you already! You have stumbled across the best jeep board on the net, lucky you! It has been said many times here that we are family and we are. Come back often and I'm sure a lot of us would love to see a pic of your pride and joy.
