Extra seat belt in back seat?

Just wondering, has any one installed an extra seat belt in the back seat of a TJ. I got 3 little kids and they all want to ride in the Jeep. I pulled a seat belt out of a junker and wanted to install it on the same bracket with the originals. Anything wrong with doing that?

Re: Extra seat belt in back seat?

I am still debating if it would be ok and safe to put third (little) person on the back seat. Acctualy, it might even be illegal - i am not exactly sure how law works in that regards i.e. if vehicle is speced for two people and you put more that that on the seat.
All that aside, i would NOT use old seat belt - it might be worn and stretched...it's too much at stake - i would get a new one

I agree...a new lap belt is only $20 from Quadratec or 4WD Hardware...not much to ask for the price you are protecting.

Re: Extra seat belt in back seat?

I have installed a third belt in the rear of my CJ5 for the little ones. I used it for "around the house tours" and such. I also took them on the trail, once there (towed) they enjoyed walking and exploring the trail more than riding. Now they are bigger and can't fit (all three) in the back and my 8 YO is driving the jeep. He has driven the rubicon and around the house rocks. He also has driven my friends 99 TJ. Well I guess I'll soon have to get another Jeep...
Just be cautious where and when you drive with little ones in the Jeep.
