Help needed - OVERDRIVE T176??
It was a very small article. Maybe two sentences..... but it was all I needed.....
I read online that it was possible to swap gears out of an overdrive FORD transmission (officially called an RTS transmission) into my T176 JEEP transmission, and get me an overdrive transmission into my CJ.
I bought a transmission off of EBAY (1986 F150), and finally got around to the swapping of gears. Everything looked good... seemed to going well. I have both transmissions apart and starting to put it back together. That's when I notice that the input shaft is about 3/4" shorter than my JEEP input shaft. So now I've got both transmissions apart, and no way of putting it back together (the input shafts have a different number of teeth on the gears due to the overdrive).
UGH!! I was THIS close to having an overdrive!!!
So now I'm looking for a different input shaft for my FRANKENTRANNY. But HOW? There doesn't seem to be any information around. Do I have to buy a jillion transmissions and compare the input shafts?
Are any transmission shops gonna have this kind of infomation?
Right now I'm thinking I'm gonna look for an older version of this transmission, (mid 80's Bronco) and hoping it has the right input shaft.
Any body have a way to chase this information??
Thanks in advance.
