Anyone rhino/line-X their whole jeep body? Pics?

I'm about to get my CJ painted. I'm thinking a cheapo Maaco job so it's at least pretty but it won't bother me to scrape it up off-roading. Some friends have suggested rhino-lining the whole outside. Anyone do this? Yay or nay? Pictures? Pros and cons?

Well, they Line-X'd the Bronco "Rockcrawler" on Monster Garage last week. Here's a Link to it's web page. The pics are pretty small, but you might be able to find some better ones on the net. I thought it turned out pretty well, except for the color.

Re: Anyone rhino/line-X their whole jeep body? Pics?

Would be tough as heck...
dont have to worry about scratches or dings
dont have to worry about rust (if it is steel and you do a good prep job)
if you knick it they fix it for free.

might have an odd look to it (not many cars are textured)
(you could always ask them to make it smooth as possible, i know some dealers give you a choice of finishes/textures)

Would cost an arm and a leg and a hip and perhaps a few lower vertabrae

I was thinking about it myself.
If i were you i would make sure i had a REALLY nice body to start.
If you cover up the rust it will just eat away at the steel underneath slowly and one day you may find you have a bedlined hunk of rust. if it is fibergalss go for it.

i just dont think it would be worth spending all the money to bedline something that is already on the road to crap.

I have heard of it being done, but never seen it.
there may be some odd results of doing something like this.

because of the thickness of the bedliner as opposed to paint, you may experinece things not usally an issue with paint. for instance anywhere you mask off will now have an "edge" where the bedliner ends. you cant paint over hinges and stuff unless you dont want to use them anymore. you may find clearances to be a little off (like hard doors not closing properly, or being very tight.

Again, these are all just assumtions. and things to look out for, i have no idea if any of these would actually cause problems, or if there are ways to work around things.

Re: Anyone rhino/line-X their whole jeep body? Pi

Check out the XJ on this page: http://www.off-road.com/jeep/cheroke...inex/linex.htm

it looks pretty decent if you don't mind the avacado texture. This won't be an issue if it is covered with mud though.

I just got done spraying the inside, out side and underbody of my 1953 M38-A1 jeep with duplicolor bedliner....it turned out great and i,m really inpressed with the results.....this stuff cost about 40 bucks a gallon at wal-mart and the gun to shoot it cost about 35.00...i used 3 gallons total to do the whole thing for a cost of about 150.00....there is not over spray and clean up is accomplished with laquer thinner....i like it a lot.....good luck

Black roll on hercliner inside and out, kinda dirty though.
Pros; Cheap, easy to touchup, tough, different looking
Cons; hard to wash (use scrub brush), black turns a funny color after enough time, different looking.

Nice CJ but your front springs look like they are upside down in the picture...in other words inverted
