Is the TJ-8 a Reality?

Will Daimler-Chrysler be producing the extended wheelbase TJ and if so when is it's release date? Will it be offered in a Rubicon package? Hopefully with so many Jeepers on this BBS, surely someone here has the inside scoop and can answer these questions. Thanks.

Re: Is the TJ-8 a Reality?

rumor has it that it will be made...nobody know for sure yet i dnot think.

most speculation comes from auto shows, when chrylser said its only a prototype....but all the little informational boards for the vehicle were written as if it was going production...things like "the model will feature" so and so...speaking in future tense rather than possibility like "it may feature"

so far thats all i have heard about it.....its really up in the air still....unless someone has inside info

A few rag's I've read say it's due out in 2004 or 2005. I forget which one. I think it's but ugly personally.

Sure, until you lift it and stuff a set of 35s under it. It really doesn't look any different than a SWB TJ except for length. At least this time it appears they got it right by "bobbing" the rear for better aesthetics and departure angle.

Re: Is the TJ-8 a Reality?

I've seen one a few times on the road. There is a lot of pre production testing done out here in L.A., and I see a lot of "camoflaged" autos. The TJ in question had a hard top that was proportional and looked fine. Other than that no camo. It was running the sensors on the wheel, etc. For a second or two it was hard to put my finger on what was "wrong" with it. It didn't seem to be quite as long as the one in Desertbuzz's pics, but that could have been due to the hard top making it look more proportional. The one I have seen looks to be stretched 8"-10" at the most.
