Trick to getting seatbelts off????

I've been trying to replace my seatbelts for a while in my Jeep and I can't figure out how to get the part that retracts the seatbelt off. I tried to remove the carpet around it to see if there are any bolts that are hidden, but the carpet seems to only come off if this retractor part is off. Is there something I'm missing, or should I just break them off with a hammer?? I really don't want to break them due to someone wanting my old ones. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Trick to getting seatbelts off????

There's just the one Torx #50 beneath the retractor holding it on.

There is a 3/16" pin sticking out that will keep it from sliding up or down so it must be pulled straight off the wall instead of sliding it up.

Re: Trick to getting seatbelts off????

It is directly beneath the retractor on a tab against the wall. I'll try to draw a picture...

This is what I remember it looking like, you can access the bolt below the retractor.

I don't know about carpet, I had to give that up the day I bought mine!

Re: Trick to getting seatbelts off????

You remember well . It is exactly like that (well pin might be a bit higher up).
Just move the carpet out of the way. As Reverend26 said, the screw will be right under the 'fat' part of the retractor.

That post is open from below on my CJ (Not sure if it's supposed to be that way). See if you can get access from underneath the vehicle.

Re: Trick to getting seatbelts off????

Mine is sealed, I cant get up behind it. This, and the fact that the bolt is up off the floor an inch makes me wonder why it was so darn hard to brake lose. It shouldn't have been rusy. Go figure!

Is that fact that mine is sealed unique? or are all cj 7's like that.

Thanks
Kirk

Re: Trick to getting seatbelts off????

I used a 1/2"braker bar and a 6"extension. I also twisted one of my torks sockets off. I would like to know how you are going to get the bracket off the roll bar,on mine it looked like it was welded on?
