What kind of top is this?

I got a new digital carmera today and the first pix was of Lil Ug. I got this hard top off of eBay for $125.00 last fall. I have never seen one that covers the gas cap before. It has oval indents under the side windows and a plaque at the bottom of the door. It's time for the grey soft top this weekend. Thanks for the help,

I don't know what kind it is, but normally being a person who does not like the old steel tops, that thing looks TOUGH!! I like it.

Re: What kind of top is this?

That may be some sort of low volume production or Custom job. Not sure. Looks nothing like the hardtop on my '74, or the 5 or 6 other metal CJ 5 hardtops I know of. Sorry, can't help you. But I do like the looks of it!

Re: What kind of top is this?

That looks way too wrong.. In the cense that it does not look anything liek a CJ hard top.. Everything is square (makes me think of a hummer).. The doors look like the have squared off bottoms on both sides, not the 'S' chape at the back.. And the lines just under the window don't seem to run right, they turn up at the back side instead of running into the top of the body at the back.. That is like nothing I have ever seen.. And didn't the 5 have the same setup for wipers as the 7? Your's are at the top of the windsheild?

Does look tuff though..

plaque at the bottom of the door

[/ QUOTE ]1. That's a neat top!
2. Does the plaque mention a Patent Number?
3. If so, you can find the maker, and the patent at the US Patent Office Web site.
3. I'd like to see more pictures of this hardtop...

Re: What kind of top is this?

I can't help identify the maker, but I swear I've seen a top like that before and now I need to find out where. I'm gonna start searching and if I find another pic I'll share it. Otherwise I'm just gonna say what everyone else is saying, neat top.

After what I thought was a good lead I didn't find what I was looking for but....in a post back in August Pontiac58 mentioned he had a CJ-5 hardtop that he was going to put of for sale that had square doors. Maybe he can shed some light onto this.

Another idea I had was that it was an aftermarket top designed for the '72-75 CJ's since the gas filler had moved to the back on them. As for the wipers, the early model CJ's had wipers mounted on the top. They were vaccuum operated and also had a hand knob inside to manually operate them.

Re: What kind of top is this?

1. The Postal Top wasn't quite that nice,
2. And the doors would slide...
3. It looks like a Mihandra or Mitsubishi Hard Top to me...
4. But I don't think they would fit the tub.
5. And there's no indents on the panel matching the Doors.
6. Here's a CJ High Hood Postal HardTop...

7. Here's an Australian Overlander based on the CJ8 Postal Model,

Re: What kind of top is this?

I know its not, but that top "LOOKS" like an old Landcruiser top. But there isnt any way one of those would fit. That was my first thought when I saw it. .02
