Harbor Freight Winch

OK. I see Harbor Freight has their 8000lbs winch on sale again, this time for $289.00. I have yet to see anyone actually admit to having one. Has anyone out there bought one of these and if so, how well does it work?

1. Do a search,
2. These have been around for about a year and a half now...
3. Most of the onwers are pleased with 'em...
4. If you don't mind:[*]Waiting for 'em if their on back order [*]Buying NON USA made goods from RED CHINA [*]Which were manufactured by SLAVE Labor
5. On the bright side they do work...

Re: Harbor Freight Winch

Not to mention the lawless environmental standards of China, polluting the world with toxic byproducts of 19th century manufacturing practices. But to be practical, it's hard to pass up on a $200.00 metal cutting bandsaw.

Re: Harbor Freight Winch

Yep!
I'm guilty of buying made in China Harbor Freight tools.
Bought my winch from there, but it was the four hunert
buck Ramsey 8000 E-somthin' er other.Around $455.00
a couple years ago with the roller fairlead.Just got the
12 ton press and an engine stand, both China exports.
So I'm guilty as hell. But I shop all over and don't always
go for the cheap stuff.Heard about the Ramsey clone,
heard it works but not as fast as the new winches.
Can't remember where, though.Any you other guys?

Re: Harbor Freight Winch

I bought one, haven't tried it yet. Still need to make a mount.
I see their latest ad shows the exact same winch again, but in the ad it's around $400+ somethimg. The ad has the Ramsey logo on it, but it doesn't exactly say it's Ramsey.

The picture sure looks like what I bought, but there's a sticker on mine that says "Made in China," and no Ramsey name.
I wonder if the cheapie 8000 Ramsey is actually made in China?

Even if it's slow, it's still faster than walking out to get help.

8000 lbs is overkill for a 1900 lb rig anyway.

Re: Harbor Freight Winch

I do have a ramsey rep8000k , and i have seen the HF specials and my latest fliers from them have it listed for $299.00. The difference i can tell is their motor only has half the HP output as ramseys name brand (dont know if they cut back on the quality of other components also, such as the solenoids) however exterior wise they look identical except my ramsey IS made in the US...

Re: Harbor Freight Winch

Our local gypsy flea market style retailer was selling Mile Marker 8000 (electric) winches for $600.00 cdn dollars. That's about $400.00 usd. Makes me wonder if they are chinese, as most of this retailers goods are. Some of that made in china stuff is just too good to pass up. I bought a two wheel dolly for $20.00 cdn and I've used it to move fridges, stoves, patio blocks. Saved me more than that in trips to the chiropractor.

Re: Harbor Freight Winch

I have the Northern Tool rebadged Ramsey REP8000 clone on mine. I have used it several times with good success. It is not as fast as others, but it IS a winch...

It was $299 with a roller fairlead, remote, gloves, a tree strap. a snatch block, and a D ring and carry case.
