York leaking oil

Pulled a York for OBA weekend before last off of a 74 AMC wagon. (Big thanks to Tom for the headsup on the find!) Anyways, I've had this York in my garage on it's side for several days and recently moved it back to it's upright position. When I did this, it start leaking oil for the hose on the left side if you were facing it while installed. I'm suprised because I wouldn't expect to see oil leaking from the intake or output hoses. Is this bad?

Re: York leaking oil

I don't have an explanation, but mine did the same thing a couple weeks ago.
I was installing a 3G alternator for my onboard welder, so I moved the york over and set it on it's side. When i went to put everything back together, I noticed mine was leaking some oil out the top. It still works fine, so i wouldn't be too concerned if everything else seems to function properly.

Don't forget to check the oil level before you use it; it may have lost enough to cause some problems when you go to use it if you don't re fill it.

Re: York leaking oil

Yorks will spew more oil during operation when the suction side is down. You may have set it on that side?

Re: York leaking oil

My york spews tons of oil with the suction side up, I have emptied my oil trap 3 times since I got the YORK. (Brand new unit too).

... is this normal ?

Re: York leaking oil

I think it is something you have to live with unless you do the oil mod. Mine does it also.
