Input length T-18

I've tried searching here and elsewhere to no luck, chuck.
It's my understanding that Jeep had three input shafts for
the T-18.Not concearned with the FSJ long, long one.The
ones I''m talking about are the early (longer short)one that
works with the T-15 bellhousing and the other later (shorter
short) one that works with the T-150 belhousing. What I
can't seem to find is the specs on the actual lengths and/or
length differences on both of these 'short' shafts. Is this
actualy correct thinking on what I've read,or did a squirrel
run up my pant leg? I've got both bell housings and a
ford input shaft for my 4spd and know which bellhousing to
use,but would like to know the info on the OEM Jeep parts
anyways. It may help someone else on this board sometime.
That would be !

Re: Input length T-18

I don't know of a shaft that fits the T-15 bellhousing. I swaped to the shaft that fits the T-150 bell. Bellhousing measures 6.5 inches. I have my T-18 tore down right now to change the syncro ring on the front shaft. What would you like me to measure for you? I am going to take the front shaft to my kick ass tranny shop in the morning to have it remachined for a new syncro ring and then put it back together right away. So let me know!

Re: Input length T-18

Thanks for replying! There are two mesurements I
would like to know on these shafts. One would be
with the shaft sitting gear down on the floor and
pilot shaft up,the total length from the floor to the
top of the shaft. This mesurement would be very
usefull when the shaft is out of the transmision
already. The second length would be the installed
length from the bellhousing mating surface to the
end of the pilot shaft. That would be usefull to
determine which tranny a guy had and what he
actualy needed or didn't need to install it.I've got
a Ford input, but found a source for a new shaft
and am thinking of getting a new one if it's the
right one and stuff checks out.Plus I'm nosey
about parts swaps. Thanks a bunch !

Re: Input length T-18

The input shaft, removed from the tranny, is 9 1/8 inches from end to end. I will take the other measurement tomorrow when I put it back together. I do know that my pilot bushing moved from my cam to my flywheel when I put the ford shaft in it. I also know that the T-89 input is the same measurement but the gears are different and it wont work as a swap. I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Re: Moosetaylor2

Another place to get cool ideas is the local 4X4 club.
And not only will they help you learn what you want
to do to your Jeep, but you'll meet friends to wheel
with.Magazines have cool but expensive and sometimes
unneccesary for lighter duty wheeling mods to their
Jeeps.Try a search on Cherokee America.Better yet,
try a search on Cherokee Jeep.I would imagine you
tried the forum for Cherokees on this site, yes?I
think it might be under Full Sized or something. You
gotta know what you are going to be doing with your
Jeep to tell guys so they can help you get cool ideas.
But remember,it's still Your Jeep!

Any of you guys got a link to local club searches?
