loose rocker problems

i own a 1983 jeep cj-7, 258 i-6. the newly rebuilt engine has about 20,000 miles on it. last week i started to hear a loud tapping noise in the valve cover. i took the cover off and noticed that every second rocker could be moved from left to right and that the third set, second rocker had a gap between the spring and the bottom of the rocker. no other rockers had gaps in them. i retorqued all rockers to 25ft/lbs to see if this would solve the problem. started the engine, the tapping had stopped for about a minute but then started again, then stopped. i switched the problem set, the third set with the fourth set but the problem still exists. do i need to buy new rockers? does the head need to be reworked?
thanks... [email protected]

6. The cam lobes may worn, or,
7. The lifters may not be filling with oil.
8. Have you looked to see if the push-rods were deformed, scored, etc.?
9. IMHO... Pull the head.. examine the lifters and camshaft.
10. Is the camshaft "walking"?
