81 CJ7 engine swap

I am going to get a new engine for my CJ7 this morning after long arguments with my wife she finally gave up. I am swapping the old 258 which was completely shot when i got the jeep with a new Vortec 4.8L from the company Advance Adapters gets thiers from. I am also going to swap the tranny but not sure what to go with. Right now I am leaning towards a TH350. I want to go with an automatic. If anyone has any suggestions on the tranny please let me know.

1. Welcome to the forum.
2. Thanks for filling out your user profile.
3. Read the New Posters Message at the top of the forum.
4. Participate more often!
5. Two brains are always better'n one!
6. IMHO... your wife should have won the argument...
7. Are you sure you want to get on this upgrade path?[*] Engine.[*] Radiator.[*] Shroud.[*] Motor Mounts.[*] Transmission.[*] Adapters for Transfer Case.[*] Drive-shafts, front and rear.[*] Rear Axle and gearing.[*] Upgraded Brakes.[*] Fuel Pump.[*] Fuel lines.[*] Possible Gas tank.[*] Possible Body modifications to fit drive-train
8. And when done with the swap,
9. The low end torque that the 258 is famous for,
10. That has been shifted into a higher RPM band
11. IMHO... it's a high price to pay.

Re: 81 CJ7 engine swap

I havee researched everything that i need pretty much. this isnt a short term project. i plan on it taking at least a year to a year in a half. i agree with what you are saying there are going to be a lot of mods and expensive that is why it will take awhile.thanks for the reply
