Their a good, Stout axle. The only thing I don`t like about them is the low pinion entry, Make`s for steep
driveshaft angle`s.

Re: is the ford 9\" any good

They are a very good rearend. There are many versions of the 9" Ford, in particular the centre section and spline count. If you are running big tires and power, you will want to count the # of splines on the axles. You could always upgrade to stronger axles and an appropriate detroit locker.

Also, you can swipe rear disk brakes off a Lincoln 9" ford for yours.

Re: is the ford 9\" any good

The 9" is an excellent axle. Available gear ratios from 3:1 to over 7:1 - Ring & pinion beefier than a Dana 60 - Pinion gear is supported on both ends - Wide selection of aftermarket traction devices.

If you put a 9" in your CJ make sure it is a 31 spline with big bearings. Also, tilt the pinion up 5 to 10 degrees depending on your lift.

Re: is the ford 9\" any good

The 9" is a good strong axle, in its strongest form.
Its an excelent choice for the drag strip, and maybe even in a moderate trail rig,..but they are not a good extreme off road axle, they just hang to low.
The pinion is low and the pig is also low, they are anchors in big rocks.

The Ford 9" would be nearly my last choice, if I were building a capable off road rig.
