Hi all, for those that have swapped in a 5.0 I have a question about the oil pressure sensor. I am using the sensor for the 5.0 engine (The Jeep sensor is too big to fit), and after wiring it up, when I turn the key the Jeep gauge goes up to ~60 psi right away on the needle (this is with the engine NOT running). My question is how did you guys wire this sensor in? This is on a brand new re-build, and I am scared to start it without the oil pressure gauge working correctly because I *need* to be able to see what the oil pressure is doing on the virgin startup. If I can't find an answer, I might just get an aftermarket oil pressure gauge that will work with the Ford sensor, but I was hoping there was an easier fix. Thanks!
5.0 what, 304 AMC, 302 Ford, 305 Chevy or a 301 Pontiac? I've every had any luck with an electric oil gauge. The best thing to do is get an aftermarket mechanical gauge and you'll know what the oil pump is doing. As for the electrical gauge find a low pressure idiot light that comes on when there is low pressure. Becuase if the light comes on you look at gauge real fast. L8r,
I was wondering if there is an easy way to make it work with my stock CJ oil pressure gauge. The stock 86 CJ-7 oil pressure sensor is electric (one wire) as is the Ford sensor, but they are apparently different voltages. I was hoping that someone had already overcome this obsticle in their 5.0 to CJ-7 swap. Otherwise it looks like an aftermarket gauge for me...thanks!
I'm not a Ford man so,I don't know where the sensor is on a Ford, but, you could go down the Ace, The Helpful Hardware Man, and make a pipe adapter to use the Jeep sensor in the Ford block. L8r, Hey while up in Ft Collins,
I had the same problem. I installed Autometer's 2 1/6" electrical gauges. They fit right into the dash. Or you can use the factory jeep sender with some brass adaptors and plug that into the Ford engine. The jeep sender only works with the jeep gauge.
Yes, 2 1/16" gauges. I got the pro-comps with the satin silver rings and you can't read them without installing the angled mounts into the dash. I recommend the gauges with the simple chrome trim ring. Those can be viewed at an angle.
