OK fellas got a few pics of my steering linkage that I finished up today.

Re: Steering linkage pics on my rig

Digging up an old thread..

But I have a question.

When using Heims in a steering setup...
How do you stop said heims (mainly the draglink heims) from binding?

When the passanger side drops, the heim will bind more and more then it already is in the second picture..

Yes? No?

Re: Steering linkage pics on my rig

Inferno,
Usually the holes are drilled in the arms at an angle to aleviate some of the binding problems you see there. That pic was taken last Feb. or so. Since then I have sold that 3/4 ton D44 and went full tilt to a D60. I am going to run 1 ton TRE's also since mud is really hard on Heims. I will more than likely bend the tierod a little to straighten out the TRE to arm angle some. I will use heavy enough DOM that the bend wont weaken it much if any. Wade

Re: Steering linkage pics on my rig

That is a really nice looking set up, on a very nice Jeep. Looks like it is going to hold up really well.

Re: Steering linkage pics on my rig

I'm sure that was the test fit - you are going to weld those bungs into the tubing, right?

Re: Steering linkage pics on my rig

Budd,
You are correct. I put it together like that to check the length of my tierod and draglink. No standard sizes when using a full size truck axle under a Jeep. I welded everything solid after the pic was taken. After about 2 months of seeing my Jeep with square headlights I was almost pushed to the edge..
I had to do something. So I put the hood and grill on it from my old CJ. Looks alot better and I think the round headlights give at least 10 HP LOL

Re: Steering linkage pics on my rig

Wade, do you have any pictures of the heims after they were finished?

At $25 CDN here.. the Heims are plentiful.. and have less slop then TRE's...

Also save me $100~ on a reamer.

Got greaseable ones round here too.

Been reading the pro-anti arguments, but heims don't seem all that bad.

Re: Steering linkage pics on my rig

I've used Heims on my CJ for three years. They have held up good. Mine have the teflon coating and are self lubricating so you don't have to grease them.
