Re: dana 44\'s for sale

Excuse me for being stupid, but what would it take to get one of these working under a 97 TJ ? IM looking for either a dana 44 or a ford 8".

Re: dana 44\'s for sale

you'd have to throw that axle away and start with something else...
1. the diff is on the wrong side
2. its the wrong bolt pattern
3. you'd need all the brackets welded on
4. you'd need to grind off the knuckles and turn them to get a bit of positive caster
5. you'd end up with an axle thats not much stronger than your tj d-30
6. build a high pinion ford d-44... much better suited for your application.

Re: dana 44\'s for sale

Hmmm ...LEVE ..my buddy's Scout II had a drivers side drop for the front ...and I believe that they came in two bolt patterns over their span of years.

I also didn't see that he was looking for the front. I wouldn't think that the rear would matter much if it was offset a little to either side.

The brackets are expensive.

Re: dana 44\'s for sale

gary..your right.. this would actually make a fine donor for a rear tj axle if you wanted the larger bolt pattern.
