T176

t-176 tranny 4 or 5 speed in a 1980 cj-5 what do you guys think of it can it handle 35s amc 20 rear locked 1 piecc axles 4.56 gears or go lower ie 5.13 s.o.a dana 300 are twin stiks available

I think that trans strength would be a factor for motor output , not the gears or t-case behind the trans.

I hear the t176 is a medium duty ford tranny how much horse could it handle also mine is a five speed 80 cj5 but i read that it can be 4 speed

The t176 is a 4 speed. It can handle stock v8 power since it came through behind the amc v8 in some j-truck applications. Mike

tell us the id numbers not sure what ya got but if its a 5-speed its not a t-176. just cross your fingers and hope its not a t-5. maybe you got lucky and someione swapped in a heavier trans.

tell us the numbers on the trans maybe get us a pic of it somebody can probably help you figure out what you have.
