Ford T18 Shift Pattern

I'm finishing up a D300 novak conversion on a Ford T18. Anyone know the shift pattern for a Ford T18 out of a 1985 2wd F-150? Also it looks like the shifter is held in place by a pin. I got my tranny from the junk yard w/out the pin. Does anyone have any details are far as the pin size, etc? It doesn't look to be threaded. Thanks.

Re: Ford T18 Shift Pattern

Well I'm not quite sure where my T-18 is out of, but I'll assume they're all the same. The low gear or 1st is to the left and up. Down from there is 2nd, to the right and up from there is 3rd, down from there is 4th. All the way to the right and back is reverse.

The pin isn't threaded. I don't know the size, but I do know that if it is too small your linkage will bind. Partsmike.net sells them. Good luck!

The pattern is:

Bear creek survey sales all kinds of neat dash stickers, This is the one I bought from him.
As for the shifter and the pin, watch out for the shifter lengths. There is at least two size towers. 1) The shifter is 3.5 inches from the trans side ball the the shifter fulcrum ball and 2) the 4.0 from the trans side ball to the shifter fulcrum. I went through this with Mile Hi Jeep Rebuilders. They could tell you about the pin size and the shifter size. Ask for Don. Hope you enjoy it,

The T18 that was stock in late '70s CJs has reverse right and forward. I think that it uses a different case from the Ford T18 with reverse right and back.

Re: Ford T18 Shift Pattern

I`m confused. I have a T-18A in my CJ that came from a `76 CJ and reverse is to the right and back. Are
you saying for it to be a Jeep T-18 reverse should be to the right and up?

Re: Ford T18 Shift Pattern

the early vs late T18s had reverse either over and up or over and back, late fords and Jeeps are the same, early Fords and Jeeps are the same.

they also made reverse differently on the early designs.

Re: Ford T18 Shift Pattern

I believe they also had one in early models that was like the SM 420 with reverse to the left and down!!!! I might be wrong but I think a guy at the salvage yard told me that once when I was looking at getting one...
