Fuel pump sound

When putting the ignition key in "ON" position, right before cranking up the engine, I can (barely) hear the fuel pump that does a "bzzzz" sound, like regulating the fuel pressure. It happens every morning, after the Jeep has been off during the night. If I ride, then stop for some short period of time, it either doesn't do the "bzzz" thing, or it makes it very short.
At longest, it lasts one second (overnight or more that it sits still).
Is that normal?

Re: Fuel pump sound

I have an electric fuel pump on my `62 for the Chevy engine and it does the same thing. Once it builds up pressure the pump quiets down. If the carbs needle and seat(my case) or the injectors, get enough fuel it will back the pump up and you won't hear anything. My gas gauge does work good under a 1/4 tank, so, if I hear the pump I look for the closest gas source. L8r,

Re: Fuel pump sound

I did the 4.0L conversion on the CJ and it does the same thing, the fuel pump cycles on when u put the key in the on position to pressurize the fuel lines.

Re: Fuel pump sound

1. It's normal.
2. You've got a 2 second on cycle for the fuel pump,
3. When the ignition's switched to RUN or START.
4. Have a little fun...
5. Turn the Ignition to RUN, with the motor off not running.
6. Manually Pulse ANY fuel injector,
7. You'll hear the injector open and close as you pulse it.
8. Then the regulator says to the ECM...
9. OH MY... THE FUEL PRESSURE IS DOWN ..
10. TURN ON THAT FUEL PUMP AND REPRESSURIZE THE LINE!.
11. Then the fuel pump turns on and repressurizes the line,
12. Then the fuel pump turns off.
13. For a GEEK like me.. it's really a lot of fun!
