Exhaust question: EGR threads?

Hey all,

I just got a borla header, and it has the port for the EGR tube on it, but my manifold doesn't. I need to plug it, but I haven't found anything that fits it thus-far. Anybody know what thread the EGR is? It doesn't appear to be NPT.

EGR, on a `62? I don't have to worry about that but here's an idea.
The Best idea is to ask the people that made it. Borla has a email tech site on their website. Try that it might get you the info you need. L8r,

Herb

I have a Thread pitch gauge and a good assortment of plugs. Let me know if you need any thing.

Re: Exhaust question: EGR threads?

You'd like to THINK the people who made it would know... Called them Monday and they had no clue, told me to weld it shut, but this thing is so well put together it would be a crime to put one of my booger-welds on it.... It's stainless too, and I have no clue how to do THAT... Figured a plug couldn't be THAT hard.

Thanks Adam! It's not on the block yet, so I can bring the header over for a trial fit, or I have the original EGR tube to check thread against. When would be a good time to catch up with you?

Re: Exhaust question: EGR threads?

Herb,

It is a 7/8 fine thread bolt thread. When I put Mopar MPI on my '80 CJ I used a '95 Cherokee exhaust manifold that also had an EGR port. The Mopar directions said to use the tube nut off of the old EGR tube that was removed and a provided soft plug to block the port, but since I hadn't had an EGR on my '80, I didn't have the tube nut and I looked everywhere and could not find one. I tried tons of various pipe type fittings with no success and finally met a junkyard owner that told me they were regular machine threads, it turned out that they were 7/8 fine. I bought a bolt and cut it off and it has worked great for two years now.

Re: Exhaust question: EGR threads?

Try a sparkplug if it is the same threads as a exhaust sensor.

Re: Exhaust question: EGR threads?

Frosty: Thank you sir!!! We came up with 7/8ths-18 as well. Now it's just a question of finding a plug for it... Will try the bolt trick.

Re: Exhaust question: EGR threads?

1. This has been an intersing thread.
2. NF, SAE, NPT, all different!
3 Then throw in Metric vr. Standard...
4. Herb, how about simply drilling an re-tapping,
5. To somethng, pardon the pun, a little more standard?
