well just got back from looking at the cj

The engine runs strong, it is a 5 speed tranny...not sure which this is, and no od on the tcase, not sure what tcse this is either. The only rust spot is under the rear driver coverplate...everything else is cherry! The interior,,only rips in the drivers seat, everything else is in great shape...almost new looking. It does need a new throwout bearing, so I will change that and put a centerforce II clutch in at the same time. It has some vibe on the front end, the sway bars are off buti think it may be the front drive shaft. All in all the jeep is in fantastic shape. I talked him to 2500! ALL i need now is my tax returns to come in and its mine...what do you guys think? this a good deal?

Well congrats on the find, sounds good. As far as the front end, the driveshaft will make it vibrate only if its in 4 wheel drive. If it not, I would look in other things. Not a big deal though. Good luck with it.

Re: well just got back from looking at the cj

What else could it be? It vibrates pretty bad. Do you guys know what tranny or tcase this thing has? He said the 4x4 shop(he never worked on it himself) told him he had the good axles..he said one was a 44, he couldnt remember the other. The rear is a big dome, no curves,..the front diferent os offset to the passenger side. I knwo the tranny is a 5 speed but those werent till '82..HELP!

Re: well just got back from looking at the cj

1. What year is the Jeep?
2. Define, "Vibrates really bad".
3. If,"The rear is a big dome", That would be an AMC 20 axle. I don`t think anyone here would define that
as a "Good", Axle.
4. All CJ`s from about `70 on came with dana 30 front axle`s.

The Vibes could be a few things. Could be just a bad set of tires. Any noises come with the vibes? When do they happen? (speed for example)

Re: well just got back from looking at the cj

I thought the rear was an amc20 but he said no. The vibes start at about 10 mph and get worst as you speed up. the cj is a 1979. Im going back to look at it again with a bud on Sunday, what do I need to look for? Is this a good deal for 2500? I thought so, even if I had to put another grand into it. It has brand new custom 4" lift leafs...keep um ciming, this is good stuff. More info can be found undermy other post, it was about 2-3 days ago...look for seadaddy as poster, subject was somthing like question about an engine/clutch, also under looking for a CJ.

Is it completey round with out any bolts on the back side? I could be a Ford 9 inch. Did you crawl under it? If so how long is the rear driveshaft? The shorter the the shaft the more the vibes you feel. The u-joints in the shafts or axles could be shot making the vibes. Just my 2 cents worth,
