O/T...Fellow Jeeper needs Prayers

Steve Smith a founding father of DeJA had a bad accident last week and needs our prayers. Steve suffered severe injuries including his head, spinal column, and lungs. He also lost brain activity for more than 8 hours. He is still in ICU at a major medical center.

Re: O/T...Fellow Jeeper needs Prayers

1. My prayers are with Steve, and with his family.
2. This reitterates the need for a full roll cage.
3. Keep safe out there...
4. These posts are never enjoyable to read,
5. And even sadder when typing a reply...
6. This is about the 4th within the last year,
7. If memory serves me right,
8. How many more don't we know about?
9. Let it be a lesson to all...
10. Build/Buy/Obtain that roll cage!

Thoughts and prayers to him and his family. Looks like the YJ roll bar did not do too good of a job. I second the full cage, he may not have been hurt at all if he had one. Please keep us updated.

As for the Jeep, I'm baffled at how poorly that cage held up. Is that normal? Anyone have some insight into the damage?

Re: O/T...Fellow Jeeper needs Prayers

Thats an astounding wreck. I'll make sure to keep him in my thoughts. As for the way that roll bar just folded in I too am astounded. The only thing I keep thinking is there was a weak spot in the center either due to bad production or a previous roll-over. I think its amazing the way so many people join together after such an event. In the posts on the other board there is talk of joining together to repair his Jeep for him so that it'll be roadworthy when he's able to drive it again. It makes me proud to know I'm part of such a "family".

Re: O/T...Fellow Jeeper needs Prayers

What a horrifying picture... Life is so random sometimes - something like that could happen to any of us at any moment and we should keep him in our thoughts while @ the same time being a tad more cautious when we head out jeeping...

Times like these are some of the only moments when I wish I was driving something much safer than a YJ.... Although I'm with some of the other guys here - It's insane that that rollbar just crumbled in like that - It almost looks like there was already a stress point or weakness right there at the crumbled area.... Re: O/T...Fellow Jeeper needs Prayers

Tragic...hope it turns out OK...

Anyway, about the rollbar...another post said that he hit a snowbank and rolled, then the car behind him hit him. I'm guessing the car behind him hit him straight on from the top...the force of the impact caused the rollbar to bend in right where the other car's bumper hit.

Purely speculation, but it seems to make sense.

To clarify, he was on his side and the car hit the top.

I really hope he comes OK out of this. I'll say my prayers for him, that's at least I can do.
