What\'s your diagnosis.

I have a TJ with a 4.0, manual transmission. 3 inch lift with 33 inch tires. Stock Dana 30 front.

1. About how much play should the front driveshaft have. I could twist mine about an inch or a little more in either direction. The rear has almost no play. So is that normal for the front?(in 2wd)
2.In 2wd there is a rapping/ knocking sound from the front when starting in first gear. I think near the transfercase.
3.In 4wd hi. In all gears there is a slight grinding. When I hit bumps there is something knocking under ther floor boards. The front wheels are still pulling.
4.Ya think I wrecked a ujoint on my trail ride?

Any Ideas would help. I'm a rookie at fixing my own Jeep.Thanks.

Re: What\'s your diagnosis.

Grab your driveshaft at the Tcase end. shake it up and down, back and forth and see if you have any movement.
