Does anyone know about MSD?

I was just trying to figure out if there is anything that is just as good as MSD, but cheaper. Also, does anyone know if there are any junkyard parts for the Dana 20 that will help the increase the gear ratio. I have been reading posts off of this site for the last year or so, and I have used the swearch billions of times, but I hafta say, this is the best forum ever. Everyone is so willing to put forth the effort to really help.

Re: Does anyone know about MSD?

IMHO, MSD is the best. Their product is solid and even more so, their warranty and support is much stronger than their competitors. I had a friend who sent back his MSD that was trashed in a fire. MSD sent him back a new unit at N/C. Personally, I had the same MSD in 3 different 4x4's and each time I moved it they were very helpful in the installation.

1. If you're going to add on an aftermarket ignition system... MSD is the one I'd go with.
2. It's simple, and easily swapped back to OEM.
3. The company has a good reputation in the marketplace.

Re: Does anyone know about MSD?

Just re-read your post. I agree with GH. For the money, start with the TR upgrade. It will get you a hotter coil and better cap, rotor and wires. It cleans up alot on the 258. Then if you still want more juice, go for the MSD. You will need to do the TR upgrade before the MSD or the spark will jump the terminals on the cap.

Re: Does anyone know about MSD?

I already did all that stuff to my 258, I am tring to bring my 304 back to the future. Does anyone have any clue how to make my gear ratios higher and better in my Dana 20 while using mystery parts from the junkyard? I really have done some searching on this topic. I am just not really wanting to spend 700-800 for a 4:1 or whatever ratio it is.

Re: Does anyone know about MSD?

I had the MSD6A on my 1980 CJ for less than a year. Got into some difficulties when we had to CA register and smog it from AZ so I ended up removing it. If you are interested I'd sell it to you for a fair price. email me off line as this isn't supposed to be a parts sales site. I'm certain my email address is on my profile. John
