Anyone used YJ shackles on CJ7 ?

I want to know if I can use a set of YJ shackles on my 83 CJ7.
I want to do that because YJ shackles are 1" longer than CJ7 one's so that would give me a 1/2"lift and that I can have easy access to one set.

The issue I see is the bolt size. I haven't measured yet but it seems that YJ bolts are bigger than CJ's.

Anybody as done this ?

Not sure about the bolt size, but CJ front springs are 1/2 inch narrower than YJ fronts.

Re: Anyone used YJ shackles on CJ7 ?

I know springs are narrower on a CJ, but on stock YJ shackles there are no spacer so thats not a problem.
However bolts diameter is a problem if the hole in the shackle is larger than the hole in the bushing..

I talk to 4WD Hardware people an they say that I can use their YJ shackles (thay have a spacer) on my CJ. However when I ask about the spacer size thay say that I would need to cut it and they didn't answer yet about the bolt issue..

maybe someone here knows better ...

Spacers? Never heard of any shackles using spacers, but I guess they can. I'm guessing if the bolt size is different you could use YJ busings in the CJ springs and it should all work out.

Re: Anyone used YJ shackles on CJ7 ?

I used the YJ shackles on my CJ, an 81 CJ7, when I first did my lift. The old CJ shackles were rusted so bad that a couple of the bolts were rusted to the shackles and I didn't want to use them again. They worked ok but I wanted a little be better shackle so when money became free I ordered a set of aftermarket shackles. Good luck.
