extreme 4x4 on travel channel

I saw this show late night on the travel channel. If you get a chance watch it.I don't know when it will be on again but it is good.First half hour was some kind of off road challenge good hill-climbing and mud bogging. Then fifteen minutes of rock crawlin and fifteen minutes of desert racing.I give it two thumbs up especially the first half hour.

Re: extreme 4x4 on travel channel

I wanted to bring this back because the show was on again last night at 8:00 MST. I missed the first 15 minutes. Right when I turned it on, they were showing some competition on a muddy type course. A passenger was laying on the hood trying to unspool the winch when it smashed his fingers in the spool. They couldn't get the tension released until they went and got a crow bar. (a few minutes later) He seemed pretty calm until they got his hand out and took his glove off. - He then fainted. They took him away in a helicopter.

The second segment was coverage of the UROC competition in Cedar City. I thought it was very cool. Got me all fired up to go.

The third segment was about the baja 500. Again very cool. I have actually been to baja twice on 4 stroke motorcycles. Brought back some good memories.

It seems to be a weekly show on the travel channel.

Smashed fingers...

Couldn't they have released the clutch and unwound the spool? How would it not back out?

Re: Smashed fingers...

I don't know much about winches, but there were a lot of judges/competitors running around frantically to get his hand free. These rigs were built, so I kinda assumed they were "above average" with knowing how things work.

Maybe someone else saw it and picked up on what happened?

Re: Smashed fingers...

The show announcer seemed to think it was an electronic malfunction of the winch..." Guy pulls cable, cable pulls back...bad, real bad.

I like the guy who blows the bogger right off the bat, and keeps giving it hell until the tire looks like a rubber not. Frustration is expensive.

Re: extreme 4x4 on travel channel

Saw it a few weeks ago. Gotta admit, it was better than anything I have seen in a while on TV. Man that winch scene didn't look good.

Re: extreme 4x4 on travel channel

I thought most winches had a release for free spool so you could drag the cable out. That happened at Cass AR. at the Ramsey comp. I was there the day of the mud run!!! Pretty cool but feel sorry for the guy with his fingers stuck in the winch!!! It will make me a lot more carefull when pulling the cable out from now on!!!

This is why you should take about 12 inches of string or 3/4 web and hang it off your hook. Keeps your piggies away from the dangerous parts.
