new tires. need new gears?

i have a 97 2.5 TJ and i want to get bigger tires with out getting a lift- so either 31's or 32's, but i have been told that the bigger tires will ruin my gears. is this anything i should be worried about?
thanks.

Here's a web site that calculates new gear ratios. http://www.dirtroad.com/gears.htm This will help you figure out you gears. L8r,

Re: new tires. need new gears?

I don't think it'll RUIN your gears. It's very tough to ruin a gear set. I think you were being told it'll throw your gearing off. Making it tougher to take off, changing your "top end" speed. But it won't ruin your gears, they'll just have harder work to do.

Is that the question you were asking??
