The dumbest thing the PO did to your heap?

Mines a toss up between welding the lower steering shaft (putting two together) and leaving a $.50 oil plug out of the engine block (no wonder it didn't have oil pressure).
Did I just get lucky or has anyone else seen this kind of stuff? PO

I forgot, spray foam insulation inside the frame, rear driver's side.(classic)

Lets see...where to begin...where to begin.....

There was the 7 splices in 3 inches on pretty much the whole engine compartment wiring harness, the I wish I was half as good as MAACO paint job, 1 bolt per rear spring hanger....Did I mention the 3" piece of twisted wire "helping" to hold the hardtop on???? 1. Starved the engine for oil... siezed it up...
2. Smartest thing he ever did was,
3. Sell the thing to me...
4. When I'm the PO.. the dumbest thing I'll ever have done to the Jeep,
5. Buy it.

Re: The dumbest thing the PO did to your heap?

I just asked him, he said he thought the steering gear box had gone bad and paid $200-300 for a new one. Turned out the problem was the U-joints in the front axles. I canít complain, Iíve still got the extra steering box in the basement.

As to what he did to me the only thing I remember was he forgot to give me the main part of the soft top frame. I got the top, the doors, the pieces that go on the windshield and above the doors, but the main bow frame was missing. I called him up, he looked in his basement, sure enough he still had it and brought it into work the next day.

Looks like a lot of PO's do the same thing.

1. Mine had the 7 splices every 3 inches thing.
2. Most of the drivers side was re-done in Bondo (noticed this when i accidently bumped my angle grinder up against it, and was covered in a cloud of dust)
3. Deep shag custom carpet on the floor...
And the besto one of all:

4. WELDED a 2" reciever to the BODY!!!

It's hard to put my finger on any one thing in this case.....

but what scares me the most is looking at the painless wiring harness he installed and thinking about how he told me what his occupation was...... Electrician. Looking at that wiring job, I'd have been more apt to guess him being... say... a Butcher!

Re: The dumbest thing the PO did to your heap?

This isn't a Jeep thing but A few years ago I picked up a 67 Skylark with a thrown rod from a guy for free.
The thing was clean except the passenger rear quarter pannel had a dent.
The PO tried to pull out the dent with a dent puller to repair the quarter.
He drilled holes along the dent area and pulled.
I opened the trunk and clearly saw the holes and the dent.
He could have used a block of wood or something from the inside of the trunk instead.
I guess that is what happens when someone gets a new tool. You just gotta find a way to use it
