replaced head - Now Jeep idling over 3K rpm \'94

I replaced the head in my stroker with one that I did some combustion chamber and port/polish work. Now the engine won't slow down. What controls the idle? Maybe I forgot to connect something???

Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

1. Raymo.. is that a 4.0L head & MPI,
2. Or just the 4.0L head?
3. Have you double checked the acellerator linkage, in the case of a carb?
4. Have you double checked for vacuum leaks (intake, TB and AIS) in the case of a MPI?

It is the 4.0 head with the MPI on a 4.0 block (bored and stroked to 4.6).

I have now double/triple checked to make sure everything is connected on the intake manifold. How can I make sure there is a good seal between the manifold and the head? I torqued it according the factory spec/sequence and it appears to be tight.

Something is stuck open... Pull the head off again and look over everything... Its got to be something simple you just forgot.

Re: replaced head - Now Jeep idling over 3K rpm \'94

I don't think anything went wrong putting on the head. I think I am going to just get a new intake/exhaust gasket and use some copper sealer and re-do it. I am going to spray some B12 berrymans around to see if I can find where the air is entering to make sure I don't have a something in the way of a tight seal.

I put a piece of plastic over the throttle body and it still runs really strong and still way too high of rpms. It is obviously getting air from somewhere or it should have stalled.

I think I heard somewhere about using propane to find a leak. Just get a propane torch and open the gas valve and then pass it over the engine and around some spots that it might be leaking. Just don't light it

We used to use carb cleaner to find vacuum leaks. What is B12 berrymans?

Re: replaced head - Now Jeep idling over 3K rpm \'94

How 'bout the PCV Valve - is it there or just a straight
hose now?
Try pinching off any hoses to the intake manifold.

That's quite a bit of air getting in to completely choke off
the Throttle Body and still have it run.

You probably won't get enough propane out of a torch unless
you remove the tiny orfice, or drill it out, but that's the
easiest way to track it down.
If you use carb cleaner, make sure it's burnable - most aren't
anymore - thank the greenies for that. Gumout and Wynn's is,
Berryman's I'm not sure - cleans well though.
Or starting fluid -- just be careful not to start a fire.
