Fuel Injection Years

I understand that '91 and on had the 4.0L F.I. This I assume has the OBD1 system for trouble shooting?? Does the '96 and on have the OBD2 ?? Just supposing a guy gets his jollys with his older -7 with a 5 speed and also has a hankering for a newer Jeep with an auto. Things being what they are he is going to have to fix it hisself. Anybody have any thoughts as to the difficulty in diagnosing engine systems?

Re: Fuel Injection Years

Having recently played with both, the OBDII system gives far more detail as to what might be wrong. I feel it is a better system. Downside is it's a more complicated system with more to go wrong. Still, unless you go neolithic like my CJ5 (as few wires and hoses as possible!) I'd rather have the better of the two diagnostic systems. Just make sure you invest in a nice handscanner. They are a couple of hundred bucks for a good one, but one trip to the dealer will convince you it's money well spent!
