Tough Enough T5

I've got a question about the t5 tranny on my jeep. future plans for my jeep include 38 inch tires d44 front d60 rear with ox lockers the stock 258 beefed up and the stock d300 t-case. will the t5 take alot of abuse if not what would be a simple and efective swap for it?

Run the t-5 till it drops , But start savining money for a t-18 or np435 and an adapter. Personnally I would do the trans before the axles .

Re: Tough Enough T5

The stock T5 didn't last me long at all. I was running stock axles and 33's with a stock 258. I power shifted into second gear at 4000rpms and BAM! nothing but grinding gears. We discovered that 4th worked so I limped down the street to my house with that. After taking it apart, I found that the input gear was missing half it's teeth. Pretty nasty. I replaced it with a World Class T5 from Advance Adaptors and it works just find behind my 5.0HO V-8. If I had more money I would have gone with the NV4500 coversion for the granny low 1st gear.

Re: Tough Enough T5

I have one with 3rd gear gone I was hoping to use it instead of the SR4 behind my GM 2.5 but it's like $200 for just the cluster gear and 3rd so not sure what I'm going to use yet.
I may just pick up another used one or try to find some used parts for it.

Re: Tough Enough T5

I'm just a jersey boy who has been wheeling hard for a few years now. I always beat on my trail jeep til it brakes something. I had a T5 in my jeep for 2 years..OF HARD jersey wheeling. Ask others here and they will tell you that I am not easy on my jeep. I never had a problem with it. I even put a 304 in front of it, welded rear, and 35's.

Same goes for my D30 rear. I now just had my first problem with it (still haven't looked to see what it is).

I agree with the - run it til it explodes idea.
