cage ????????

i seen some cages that bolt to the dash (cowl) looks like the same three bolts that are allready there. would this be better than going to the floor?.
in a real roll witch would be the best, cj5 dosent have much room to get in enyway, would it be better to roll with the body or the frame

Re: cage ????????

1. IMHO...you MUST go to the floor.
2. Then tie the roll cage mount to the frame.
3. You're bettin' your life on this one.
4. If you err, err on the side of safety.

Re: cage ????????

I think you have seen the TJ cages. Not sure if you ever had your dash off but bolting to a cj5 dash would be like bolting to a piece of tin foil. I dont even like them bolted that way on the TJ. Go to the floor then tie it into the frame.

Re: cage ????????

I agree, the CJ dash is only about 18ga. Not nearly strong enough to support a cage. As stated above, go to the floor with a nice size foot and then to the frame. The life you save may be your own!

Re: cage ????????

The fact that the bolt to dash cages are relying on the shear strength of a few grade 8 bolts, is scarry enough. But now imagine one of your kids sitting in the passenger seat when the down tube shears off and is forced rearward toward the seat when it collapses, durring a rollover. Nothing like having your so called safety cage shoved into your chest cavity.
