Re: What Plug wires for MSD:accel vs Splitfire vs Mopr

Just get a good heavy set of wires , 8mm if you can find some to fit the ends on the 2.5L . Most of the oem replacements won't fully handle that ignition . Why a MSD 6 on a 2.5L anyway?

They are really all the same in my opinion.

you can always get the accel custom fit for a v-8 and have two sets for the price of one :-) he he, I have run accel's, MSD, and Jacob's and have noticed no difference in all of them and the Auto Zone 8mm "high performance" wires except the price.

There isn't a whole lot of difference in performance, really. 8mm plug wires don't have a lot of variation from brand to brand. Be careful what you're using for plugs, though, make sure not to use platinum tips.

1. I gotta agree here...
2. I've never understood the need to have "the best" plug wires when you can,
3. Just get the 8mm wire by the foot,
4. Install your own boots and connectors.
5. For the price of a cheap to moderate wire set the would break down in a year.
6. And have a superior set of wires.
7. It astounds and befuddels me?
8. The key is to understanding plug wire construction,
9. The difference between cores and insulation,
10. And go from there...
11. It's not rocket science...
12. It's simply reading information for a couple of hours,
13. Defining your needs and applying the new found soulition.
14. Save your money for the big stuff you can't/won't do!

Re: What Plug wires for MSD:accel vs Splitfire vs

Although I've personally had great success with the platinum Bosch line as far as longevity and reliability, there seems to be some question about the propriety of the heat range that these plugs carry by design. If you notice the insulator on the standard Bosch plat ....it's substantial.

What is in question is whether you are not doing good things for your engine in using these plugs ..in spite of them doing a great job. I'm still using PLUS 4 and PLUS 2 in my wife's TJ and my Caravan ...but I may switch to something more conventional on the next round.

RRich has some insight into this ...and causes us to ponder the wisdom of platinum.

Re: What Plug wires for MSD:accel vs Splitfire vs

I wouldn't recommend using platinum plugs with an MSD setup, they won't last for the money . Get a good set of Autolite's in the correct heat range . Maybe one range colder, even . From my experience so far , the only engines that benefit from platinums are fully controlled injected ones running a clean mixture rate . Anything that runs rich or to the performance side will kill them pretty fast .
