kinda OT -My identity is being stolen!!!

I got online today to discover TWO emails from this BBS, giving me temporary passwords for my USERNAME. This is odd, because I KNOW I haven't requested it. Is somebody trying to steal my identity? Should I be telling somebody at this BBS? Does somebody actually think my identity is WORTH stealing? Is there any way to tell if this was purely accidental, or on purpose?

Any suggestions?

humm...

1. If you loose your password you can request the system emails you temporary passwords.
2. Then it emails your "Private" email address a notification that someone has requested passwords for your account.
3. Hold on... I'm gonna do the same thing... and I'll let you know what happens...

1. Ok, I sent off for the temp passwords for your account.
2. I used my Juno email, [email protected] address as an identifier.
3. I recieved no passwords in my Juno account.
4. I suspect you've now recieved another note that temp. passwords have been requested.
5. I'd say you're safe.
6. It would not be a bad idea to pass an Email on to PJC telling him about the problem.. I also suspect that the sever will caputer and keep the email address given when the temp passwords are sent.

Re: kinda OT -My identity is being stolen!!!

THANKS Leve. I actually wasn't worried that my identity was being stolen. As you said, the temp passwords were going to my email address, so ONLY I could get them. But I was concerned because it seems like somebody would have to DELIBERATELY do it for me to recieve TWO emails. Then when I got the THIRD one... I was really freaking out!! I got on here to update y'all, when I read your reply. WHEW!!.... a little relief.

Can you do anything with a IP address? I noticed it gives me one with each email. Is this useful? Just being curious now......
