Need Help Wiring parking lights!!!

Hi, I just switched my 88 wrangler grill to a cj. I got all of the wiring done except the parking/blinker lights. The yj had a plug that used 3 wires, while the cj only has 2 wires. I have no idea what to do with the extra wire or even what ones to connect. Just playing around I got the parking lights to work but no blinker. thanks Mike

1 CJ wire to each filiment.
2. Body of the lamp assembly is ground.
3. Grill is ground.
4. Light blue to Left Turn signal.
5. Dark blue to Right Turn signal.
6. Ohm out the connecor to see what's common and ground that wire.

On the YJ the side markers blink oposite the turn signals. I'm wondering if it has something to do with them, if not it's probably a ground wire.

Re: Need Help Wiring parking lights!!!

Lot of electrical questions today.

I don't speak square headlamp, but I'd guess that the extra wire is a ground. You should be able to look at the YJ sockets to confirm that. Note which wires go to the bottom of the bulb and connect them to the wires to the CJ bulb. Just twist together at first, you've got a 50/50 chance of getting them right the first time. If the third wire is a ground, do what I did, drill a hole in the CJ reflector and pop rivet a ground wire to it.

Re: Need Help Wiring parking lights!!!

I basically have done what you guys have described. I grounded the black (third wire) and connected the other 2 to the cj plug. I get my parking lights 1 way and nothing the other way. But when the parking lights are working the blinker doesn't come on. in the dash the blinker light comes on but doesn't blink either. I have tried 2 bulbs both of which look good. I guess I will pick up some new ones and see what happens unless anyone has any ideas. I sanded down the grill to bare metal where I have the grounds so those shouldn't be the problem. Mike

Re: Need Help Wiring parking lights!!!

Kinda sounds like your YJ is rejecting that CJ grill. LOL
I just ran outside and pulled both my 91YJ's front turn signals and they both have 4 wires
1-blue n red
1-black
2 -white
I'd be more help if Santa had brought my manual this year.
I'm not waiting for him next year I'll have one before it gets warm.

Re: Need Help Wiring parking lights!!!

well i guess I will have to switch back to a yj grill. I have tried just about every combination possible between these 5 wires and nothing works. I get the dumb parking light in a few combinations but the blinker never works.

Re: Need Help Wiring parking lights!!!

Can you take a YJ parking light apart and see what the wires actually attach to inside?

[/ QUOTE ]That sound like a ground problem. If there is no ground to the bulb, the filaments are in series and feed back to ground through the other circuits.
